 Better OFF with a BAR OF SOAPDec 21, 2009
I Promised Creative Labs that I would write a review on there product and the complete lack of customer support and customer service.
First things first. Recommend Sansas or Ipods. Do NOT waste your time with this product. Mine worked for only 4 hours before it crashed. It wouldnt take a charge and then the case it's self started separating. I called CL and they said that there wasnt anything that they could do for me and were very rude. I have owned numerous Sansas, (only upgrading because of falling capacity prices) and now I have a 32gb Itouch. The peace of mind is worth the extra monies spent. Buyer beware. YOU WILL NOT LIKE THIS PRODUCT. IT WILL CRASH ON YOU. WONT TAKE A CHARGE AND THEN IT WILL SELF DESTRUCT. I hope I made it clear to thouse who would even think about this product. I bought it because of the hype of the sound quality. Well, if it doesnt work, no sound sounds like nothing. If your wondering, The 4 hours it did work, it didnt sound any better than the Sansas.
 Creative Centrale is the Zen MX's DownfallDec 20, 2009
My first MP3 video player was a Creative Zen. Creative Zen 4 GB Portable Media Player (Black)
It was everything I wanted in an MP3 player and more. The conversion software had a couple of quirks, but by allowing the flexibility to select for optimum file size, I could easily fit a full season of an hour-long tv series, several movies and plenty of music on the internal memory. With the SD expansion slot, I was never at a loss for entertainment.
I borked it, dropped in a baby pool this summer. I mourned and I planned for replacement.
When I came across the MX, it seemed like the best deal ever. 8GB, cheaper, and still the same basic player.
I was wrong. The firmware has issues, requiring additional downloads, and the Creative Centrale software is absolutely maddening. The software is not user-friendly in the slightest, the help files are not helpful, and not only does conversion take forever, the player MUST BE CONNECTED TO COMPUTER thru the ENTIRE process.
What's even worse, there are no tools to select for optimum file size and even after attempting to convert thru old software, THEN convert thru Centrale, it re-expands the files. Which means that 8GB soon feels like 4GB.
While I would continue to recommend the original ZEN, and would even say that if someone planned to use the MX casually, (at the gym, waiting at Doctor's office, or for kids to get done w soccer practice,) it's not completely useless there. For someone who would use it frequently and enjoys variety in content on player, the MX is pointless.
I am returning this item, because it does not in any way meet my needs. I will be leaving feedback on the Creative site as well. Sadly, it seems their history of designing great hardware and mucking it up with bad software has not ended. If you're thinking of purchasing this, think hard about how you'll use it. The time-suck of conversion and limited space may drive you crazy if you have to do it several times a week.

So i had one and broke it -.- and had to get a new one cus i was in love w. the first one, its super easy to use and super easy to put music on. you can even put pics on there and such. its super light, and portable, i like it better then an IPOD i really do. everyone has an ipod to id prefer to not have one, this thing I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This device sounded good on paper. Creative was a good sound company, even though I had never tried their Mp3 players before. Well it was a disappointment to get this thing. Any way, instead of ranting about it here are the pros and cons
pros
-good sound quality
-Extra storage via SD card is nice
-Screen is acceptable
-Sturdy, I have dropped it many times, but it still works great
-internal mic and recording+radio
Cons
- Forget about the video, you have to convert to their format and any video of respectable size will take you half a day to convert.
-battery life is less than expected, I get approx 8-9 hrs on Audio, and 2hrs video before recharging
-The user interface is difficult to navigate and SD card is even harder
- Can't add music on SD card to playlists , atleast I can't, so it has to be played from folder
- Scratches form very easily on the screen
As a mp3 player I would suggest you buy it, since its so cheap, but if you plan on doing anything else forget it.

This is a good mp3 player, but the main reason I bought it is to load songs from my Creative Mediasource Organizer program, which I use to manage my 19,000+ songs. Unfortunately, the device is unable to communicate with the Organizer, and after several weeks of back and forth with the Creative support team, they were unable to help, thus the player will not synch with the Organizer. Why a company would make products that don't work with each other is beyond me, and apparently beyond Creative, as despite their promise to pass on my problem and get back to me, they have failed utterly and now I am stuck with loading this player song by song.
