Fun camera at a great price, it's not your dads 8mmFeb 07, 2010 About the only thing that would make this camera better is a better lens and zoom. It comes with a digital zoom and you know how that works. Digital zoom has a way of getting pixelated the more its used.
Other than that it is a great camera for it's current feature set. It is very portable and esay to access the .AVI formated video files. I have recommended this camera to ours, so want more can I say.
Creative Labs Vado HD 720p Pocket Video Camcorder with 8 GB Video Storage and 2x Digital Zoom (Black) OLD MODEL
Best image quality than any other pocket camcorder !!Feb 02, 2010 I have compared footage from this Vado HD (frame-by-frame) with HD videos recorded at 1080p, 720p, and VGA resolutions from the Sony Webbie PM1, the Sony Bloggie CM5, the Samsung CL65 HD, and a few Canon Powershot cameras. The Vado produces -by far- the crisper frames, and higher image quality.
Pros:
- Best image quality bar none. It even remains blur-free when moving the camera around!
- Very wide lens, ideal for filming objects that are close without having to pan too much.
- Unreal crispness and clarity for its lens size, even in low light conditions.
- Performs well indoors and outdoors and always remains in focus.
- Colors look very bright (especially the greens and reds).
- Battery is removable.
- Real buttons (not touch sensitive) that are responsive and easy to navigate.
- The camera comes with the software (and especially the codec it needs) built in, so you don't have to install anything or hunt the internet for the right codec pack to view the files.
- The digital zoom is not half bad.
Cons:
- NO SLOT FOR ADDITIONAL MEMORY (and for the 8GB second gen. that may be ok, but for the third gen. Vado with only 4GB .. this is plain wrong!!! What were they thinking?!?)
- Colors are sometimes too vivid and the contrast sometimes too high (i.e. when filming the horizon and sky, the sky turns white/over exposed).
- There is no manual settings for saturation, exposure, or white balance.
- Sound is low and does not capture details (or noise).
Minor cons:
- No optical zoom. That would be great to have, but at that size and form factor, it seems unreasonable to ask for it.
The absolute best flash memory camcorder for my buck...Jan 29, 2010 That's what I got. The best. I tried quite a few, notably the iPod of the circuit the Flip, and a couple Kodaks. I wasn't impressed much with the Kodak, sadly their name isn't what it once was. Theirs was on par with a decent cell phone camera. Couldn't keep up with movement, blurry, couldn't handle low light, the list goes on unfortunately even though they got stellar reviews. The Flip cams weren't bad, though. But this Vado HD has a few nice features that put it over the mark.
The wide angle lens and the removable battery are two of the most important in my book.
It also takes a fantastic picture. I would honestly say the quality is that of a minidv camcorder, probably one you've been using for years. It just does a tremendous video job, which was surprisings, since I'm not the biggest advocate of Creative. I hate the Zen and most of their portable media players. This though, is one fine little machine.
I run mac, so I got the sweats when I first hooked it up to my USB. It read the drive, I could see the videos...but of course, codecs were missing (all I got was sound) and the onboard software was PC only. Quick google search got me the codec, and a trip to Creatives site got me the software for Macs. The codec was Perian and it fixed it so that even FCP would recognize the files (it would before, but it wouldn't play/preview them, so there was no way to edit).
Now I've got the equivalent of my old minidv camcorder in my pocket! I can't wait to check out the newer versions at some point.
Very Sleek, Simple, and What I was looking forJan 27, 2010 My rating is rated for what it was I was looking for.
In my own view this camera was perfect for me. Mainly due to the price and decent quality.
If you were to compare buying a 8G memory card along with a Pocket Camcorder with good/great quality I'm sure it would probably run more then what this cost with it all together at least I would think it would.
So far I like what I see, and I had no issues with it or its program that is included on the device memory itself. I havent really tried out the program, I only installed it which only took seconds to install and I didnt really play with it cause you dont have to go through the program to copy or remove the videos, you can do it straight through your computer folder. So my rating on the "software" was just fair for the moment.
My main reason for getting this particular camcorder was due to the fact that I only want it for recording videos. Most of the other camcorders which state they are of extreme quality, take photo shots as well, reason being for why you have to come out the pocket for them because your not gonna want a device that has simple or bad quality on the screen for your view if your going to take pictures. I have my own highly quality expensive professional looking Digital photography camera, so again I mainly wanted this device because its video only. I have twin boys that are learning to walk and its harder carrying a bulky digital camera around to film clips, and where I live there are psycho drivers so another reason for it was so I could pack something simple and small in my purse so if someone hits me, I have something to film proof and so on.
Quick list of things I liked: (I honestly Like the whole thing period)
A/V port (Audio/Video which allows you to connect it and view from your tv)
HDMI USB cable included and port on the device (Which allows you to connect it straight to a computer if you have the capability for it. I havent tried it but I have the connection port on my laptop, but Im guessing it could be used for as a direct camera. Which is nice cause my laptop comes with a camera built in but if that were to go out, then I can attach this one and use it as back up.)
Safety case included even though the device itself feel sturdy enough
Ridiculously easy to us, not complicated at all
Durable buttons, they dont seem cheep or wiggly
The battery is removable and you can buy a replacement right off of Amazon unlike many others where you have to go through the company cause the battery is made into the device.
Only thing I would of liked:
Personally, It would be nice if you could still stick in a memory card in it and have the internal 8G, but im sure then the device would be pretty bulky then. But for a pro, at least the 8G is already there, where other pocket camcorders have problems with certian card (G) sizes or card types even if it states it accepts all types or even the specific sizes it states.
I hoped this helped, I feel this camcorder is good enough for what I want to use it for. Video is clear, sound is good when you play back videos "on your computer" (sound played off of the device is still clear but its really low even on the highest level but its not like your really trying to keep the clips on the device so I dont feel that should be really qualified as an issue or a con). If you want something simple, well worth the price, just so you can make easy viewable clips with no distortion that you can transfer straight to your computer with ease. Then this is the one for you.
But if you want something where you can take pictures and videos, and replay the video constantly (then you'll probably complain about the sound level on the device itself even though we know your gonna put it on your computer anyways where the sound comes out nice and clear). Then you might be someone who will be unhappy with this. so spare yourself the complaining and blow your money on something more expensive and higher then 100 to make you feel like you got something worth such high quality when the video quality on this, I personally see is really good.
Bought for my daughterJan 24, 2010 I own the first generation VADO and have enjoyed using it, so I gave the new one to my daughter. She's 15 and likes gadgets, so she had no problem making this thing work. She's done 2 movies for school projects and a few personal movies as well, and has had no trouble editing or uploading her work. After shopping all the other brand 'flip' type cameras I found this one to be the best bang for the buck. Creative has a winner here.
Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
