5It is what it isFeb 26, 2010
By The Raddish
It does what it says it does. It makes it possible to charge your Vado from a wall socket instead of through a USB port on your computer, and that's good because it can take hours to charge.

The picture is deceiving. The large black box is not a place to put the battery to charge, but rather the transformer that plugs into the wall. The battery must be installed in the Vado itself in order to charge it. This device is simply a 'Wall-Wart' that has an adapter that plugs into the USB port on the Vado itself, allowing you to charge the Vado without the necessity of plugging it in to a computer.

Swapping batteries in the Vado is a pain, but that's more a review for the Vado than for the battery.

1Rip off, old batteryDec 12, 2011
By Molly K "Moe"
I decided to buy this particular item as it was "Creative" and at a low price, I though it meant I will get a new original battery for my brand new VADO HD at a bargain price.
The battery that came in the box was a little damp (!!!), bulging a bit in the middle and the date on it (which I've noticed only after trying to charge it and use it) is 09-2007! The battery was purchased in November 2011! I received a 4 years old dead battery!
The battery does not work at all with my VADO HD, it doesn't even fit well in the device. The writing on it is similar to the battery that came with the device (which works fine) except for the date.

I'm not sure this is an original "Creative" product. I would have returned it but the price was so low I can't be bothered. I'm just really annoyed now.
I'll know better next time...

1A little Quality Control is needed!Dec 05, 2011

I was unsure from the reviews if this was going to be a working solution to my dead battery problem, but rolled the dice (for the price it was a no-brainer). Sure enough, battery was bulging in the middle but I had to try. Nope, battery was dead even after charging and showing 'full charge' icon.

If the battery worked, the fact that the charger was not the one pictured wouldn't really have mattered but fyi the charger I received was a typical ac adapter with a fixed cord with a standard circular male connector. Included was a short cable adapter with a female circular end and a female USB to connect to the camera. Like I said, not what is pictured but would have been fine if battery worked.

3Be aware of battery charger limitationsJun 12, 2010
By GuruMike "Mike"
The battery charger seems well built and all. Just be aware, as said earlier, that the battery is still housed inside the Camera, so you are not really independent of the camera. It is useful only if you don't have a computer nearby for a usb port.

1dead battery and the wrong chargerDec 08, 2011
By LiLi
I had the same experience as the reviewer weaktea.

The charger is not the one listed. It should work but it's not the better model shown in the picture.

The battery, however, was dead as a doornail. I tried charging it in the camera and instantly it would go to "charged" although it was completely dead. I tried charging it in the stand alone charger (the white one) but that one went immediately to the full light too.

I was unable to contact the seller because the "contact seller" page wouldn't send the email. Amazon customer service, however, was very helpful and offered me a refund.

It's a shame because the Vado I also ordered came without a battery (although it was supposed to have one) so the "spare" battery would have really come in handy.
