5A surprisingly good value.May 22, 2007
By Alexander McKelvey "Alexander"
I just lost my second pair of plane quiet headphones, and just could not bring myself to spend another $200. So I decided to try this relatively inexpensive pair.

They offer very good noise reduction, reasonably good audio (esp for the price), and are quite practical for travel since they fold to a small size.

For those choking on the price for Bose or other fancy cans, I suggest trying a set of these.

5Good value for the money - does exactly what I wantedSep 01, 2007

As a caveat, I use the Creative HN-700 version (not sure what the exact difference is between those and the HN-700 Ef is).

I bought these headphones mostly so I could listen to my iPod in noisy environments without turning the volume up so loud.

As some other people have pointed out, the noise canceling isn't perfect, and you can still hear some background noise. Still, the noise reduction is substantial and enables me to save my hearing and still hear what I'm listening to.

They're great for flying - sitting very close to the engine on a small, noisy plane, I still heard the engine a little bit but was very impressed by how much quieter it was with the noise canceling; when I took them off I was shocked at how loud it was. They make a huge difference.

You can also turn the noise canceling off if you want to listen to something without it.

The headphones are also much more comfortable than the ones I was using before, if a bit bulky (which is understandable).

My one complaint with the order was that Creative Labs was very slow sending my rebate check. Other than that, I am very satisfied with both the order and the headphones themselves and consider them well worth the buy. Although you may get somewhat better noise canceling with a more expensive pair, the noise canceling with these should be fine for most people, and you don't have to break the bank to buy them.

3These headphones are pretty good...Dec 23, 2007

I've had several noise canceling headphones over the last two years. Initially I had the Bose Quietcomfort II series ones which were of course 'great'. I sold those (since I needed money) and replaced them with the Logitech canceling ones. They were actually really good and comparable to the Bose's but much less expensive. I can't really recommend them though since they broke after 2 months (no sound in one cup). So that brings me to this set. These work fine and have a decent sound, but the noise cancellation feature is the worst of the batch. They are also not as comfortable as the other two. Battery life is good. I'd say you get about 24 hours out of the 2 AAAs it takes. One thing that has happened after about 2 months of use is the folding feature at the top of the headpiece no longer locks properly (it's loose, but still functional).
Final verdict: I'd go back to the ones from Logitech if I had some assurance that they would work more than 2 months... Hope this has helped.

4Good ValueAug 13, 2007

This product arrived just as expected and in perfect condition. As far as performance, it works good but not great but for the cost, it exceeds my expectations. The main drawback I have is comfort, the padding is not quite soft enough and the pressure against the head is a little too great causing some discomfort after a while. The noise canceling feature works well. I have had several pair of NC headsets-some more and some less expensive and these are just as good as any I've had. The carrying pouch could be a little nicer too as it is just basic protection in a bag. Overall 4 stars.

4Excellent Value; OK soundSep 16, 2008

The thing you'll be impressed most of all is the price; it also comes with a handy leather pouch and airline adaptor (only fits in certain aircaft though), and the volume control wheel on the headphones is very handy. It is also very comfortable to wear over extended periods; I wore this for most of an 8-hour flight without any discomfort worth mentioning.

I think that the noise cancellation works like a gem: the plane's engines (or indeed any ambient noise) were reduced to a distant hum, although sharp clacks and bangs do get through. Some audio artefacts are introduced, but overall I am extremely impressed by the HN700's noise cancelling ability. Amazingly, they are not too far off the pace from the Bose Quietcomfort 3 and Creative's X-Fi Headphones (in terms of noise cancellation), and the fact that these two models cost at least 5 times as much really says something about the HN700.

Where the HN700s noticeably lag behind is in the sound quality department. Clarity is distinctly inferior to the pricier headphones mentioned above, leaving a rather muffled sound. Neither are they a match for my Shure SE210s.

Nevertheless, the HN700's sound quality shortcomings are far outweighed by its comfort, features, noise cancellation, and fantastic value. You can't get a better pair of headphones for this price.
