Stick with the Creative ZiiSound D3xJan 14, 2012
By Scott K
After a long and hard search for a bluetooth speaker system for my small apartment, I purchased both this Creative ZiiSound D5x and the less expensive Creative ZiiSound D3x Modular Wireless Speaker System (51MF8120AA002).
Beyond aesthetics (D5x has touch-sensitive buttons and a volume indicator), the units are quite similar. Both units are smaller than I had anticipated though sound is strong. I was most concerned about sound quality and was surprised that I like the sound from the D3x more. While the D5x has a deeper sound with more bass, its mid- and top-range sound is not as crisp or energetic as the D3x. I've decided to stick with the D3x.

Wow, this sounds great! Literally!Sep 07, 2011
This is an excellent device for a technical noob like me. It is so easy to use, like two buttons on back and two on front. The volume is on top and is a swipe of the finger. It not only plays and charges my ipod, but plays my Walkman. The device comes with an cord for the Walkman. The Bluetooth works with the adapter, but my iPod is 4G and can be set up without the adapter. The adapter has a bright, bright blue light and I liked using the internal ipod one. As for my BlackBerry? It works remotely on that too. So far, there is no secret purchase you have to get like so many electronics today. (i.e. case for the BlackBerry, adapter for a router, that really irritate consumers like me.) As for the sound. Excellent quality and I like my Rolling Stones and Audioslave loud. Love it and my friends are jealous; can't wait to get the Woofer to it.

Loving wireless system, but not intuitive.Dec 23, 2011
It took us a while to get this system set up, as we were moving house, but we've been enjoying it for a couple weeks now. Once set up, it is easy to use, and we are often streaming Pandora through our phones and playing from our ipods wirelessly. I've shown my kids how to do it (ages 9 and 11), and they are able to get their music and audio stories on by themselves now. We are using it in a family/great room area that has no other media components, and this is the perfect low-profile sound system for this space. The unit is approximately 17x4x4, which means it can be tucked inconspicuously on a bookshelf, above cabinets, etc. We are using a sub-woofer with it, and we would like to get another speaker system to put in another area so we have more even sound coverage for this somewhat large space. My husband, who is more concerned with speaker quality than I, was impressed by its sound.
We did, however, have a few challenges getting it set up. I actually thought the instructions (which others have commented on) were decent, and my non-techie husband set it up on his own while I was out. The issues arose when he decided he'd like to try it in another room. When he went to move it, he couldn't get it to sync again. I tried to reset the system and various other fixes myself. No go. We packed it back up and I was preparing to contact the company for direction. However, after a few days I decided to give it one last try. Lo and behold, it worked! It was up and working in about 10 minutes, including linking in sub-woofer. Not sure if it is just a sensitive system (as in, don't move it after setting it up!), or we just inadvertently hit something. As other have remarked, this system has a touch system (no clearly marked buttons), so this is possible. We have no issues since, but we haven't moved it again.
Now that it is up and working, we are really enjoying this system. These wireless systems are great for rooms where you don't want cords running or don't have a main media area. I look forward to adding to this system.

Review from a non-audiophileNov 19, 2011
By Alexis Coxon
UPDATE: I can no longer recommend this product. After approximately six months of very light use, I realized that the speaker would no longer turn on. We tried a different outlet, different power supply, etc.; nothing helped. I contacted Creative, and they declined to replace the speaker for me, apparently because I had received this through the Vine program -- though they never made that explicitly clear.
At any rate, I'm not of the opinion that a $300 speaker should break after six months, and I was less than delighted by the way the company responded. Instead of buying another Bluetooth speaker, I decided to hook up our tuner to the Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter for Bluetooth Audio Devices (980-000540) and play music from my iPhone that way. Works beautifully, and much cheaper.
OK, I'm not much of an AV whiz, so I can't tell you a lot about the specs on this speaker. However, I CAN tell you that it was very easy to pair with my iPhone, my husband's iPhone and my iPad, that it sounds surprisingly rich (and loud! -- don't turn it all the way up if you value your hearing!), and that it looks quite nice sitting on top of our entertainment center. It's stylishly discreet. I also like that you can use it to charge your iPhone -- or at least you could, if yours wasn't way up on top of our entertainment center :)
One note: It's surprisingly heavy. So be careful when picking it up or moving it -- this thing weighs a ton!

Tricky setup, OK sound, very useful and full of potentialJan 26, 2012
By Hedera Femme
The concept of building degrees of surround sound is pretty cool--nice use of bluetooth, and had the sound quality been better, it would probably be a worthwhile investment since it works with every device I have tried it with (iPhone, iPad, a few laptops). The initial setup isn't quite as straightforward as pressing a button and waiting for it to show on the other device's screen, but it's not horrible either; it just requires a little reading in the instruction book. Once paired, the devices find themselves easily and it's no longer an issue.
As for the sound, it's a little tinny and doesn't carry as far as other brands in my home (Pioneer and Bose), and considering this one isn't that much cheaper, it might be worthwhile paying the extra hundred or so dollars for one of the leading brands; however, the fact these can be paired with each other to create surround sound does make a compelling argument for buying them.
Interesting and useful product with decent but not excellent sound.
