Sounds good in certain positionAug 30, 2012
By homer quan
This product seems more suitable for youtube blogger and communication (high quality mic) .
The FX voice effect will be interesting to gamer.
The sound quality is not as good as most other creative two way speaker. But the single usb connection will be useful for those who like tidy desktop. Actually after one day usage, I found the position of the speaker effect a lot: put it in the right middle front of you will make stereo better.
The touch control is cool
Bluetooth handsfree will save you a lot (compare products from polycom)
The overall quality make it a good decoration in you home
Sound quality is not good enough for hardcore music fans
Pricy than other usb audio interface
I enjoy this speak so far. It's good for communication and most online audio tasks (youtube, casual listening...).

Good, But Not GreatFeb 14, 2013
I got this item because I wanted an option besides headphones or my Mac's internal speakers for things like movies or music. I cannot speak to its usefulness as a tool for making calls, videoconferencing, etc.
The item is nice looking. The look and feel of the controls on it is pleasing, and it is fairly responsive. The sound that comes from it is louder and of better quality than my internal speakers, so it suits my needs. I have successfully used it via USB and bluetooth with both my MacBook and my iPhone.
That said, there are some big flaws. The first, out of the box, is that while it is wireless and bluetooth-capable, it has no on-board battery to speak of. So wireless is a bit over-reaching. It basically has to be within a couple feet of my computer at all times in order to be useful. Figure that into your desk-scape. While it would be possible to have it plugged into a power outlet across the room and connect via bluetooth, the item does not ship with a power adapter! So wireless--not so much. (You can purchase an adapter, but that's like selling a bicycle without pedals IMHO.)
Another drawback is that it's difficult, sometimes, to get it to register as the sound output device. I can generally do so successfully, but there are times when I have to restart the computer and sorta power-cycle the speaker (it has no on/off switch per se) before I'm able to get it to work. And sometimes, I have to suck it up and use bluetooth even though it's plugged in via USB for reasons that escape me. I would say that, in addition to the fact that it sometimes seems to have its own idea of where the volume is set, causes me to think one might figure that into a purchasing decision. (I have once, in fact, had it plugged into the computer, which was powered on, and have the entire unit go black, as if it was not receiving any power.)
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this product. It's pricier than some similar speakers for no benefit I can see. It might be of use to someone who wants to use it primarily for calls and the like, but I am guessing there are likely established players in that realm.
I will continue to evaluate this item and update my review if I discover anything.

only goodlooking itemMar 16, 2013
Build quality is good but performance is bad. Most of the time it shuts off even though my volume only up to around 75%. Im dissapointed with this purchase.

Decent multi use speakerFeb 20, 2013
By P. MSakamoto
Summary: The SBX10 is a good, multi-purpose speaker. It also doubles as a conference phone when using Skype or other net phone communication service. It has a few control quirks, but those are tolerable and have work arounds. I would give it another star if they had included an AC power brick to go with the USB power cord.
* Speaker + noise canceling microphone. I've used it for Skype and GoToMeeting, and it works very well. A big step up from the built-in mic and speakers on my Macbook Pro.
* Doesn't take up much desk space.
* Sound is good. The design has a pleasing stereo image despite only being a single enclosure.
* Bluetooth connection is easy.
* The included USB cable is super high quality and ruggedness.
* Volume is a bit limited, but this is not an issue for my use of it. It's probably not a great dorm room party choice, though.
* The shiny top with the high-tech touch controls gets finger prints easily.
I use this as my conference speaker phone and it is very good in that role. The other side can hear me plainly and my near side team can hear the other callers clearly. As a bonus, it makes a decent music speaker, too.

Best sound I've heard so far for a USB powered speakerJan 24, 2013

"Those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand. - Kurt Vonnegut"
I tested the Creative SBX10 on a Windows 8 laptop with a USB Bluetooth "dongle." First, all advertised features were tested and worked. Your hardware and software may be different, but everything checked out as pretty standard on my rig. Make sure to install the Sound Blaster Axx control panel and software as recommended to ensure everything works. I couldn't get the Windows 8 Google app voice recognition feature to work with the microphone until I installed the control panel. Once done, everything worked fine.
I was initially concerned that this speaker didn't come with a power supply since my experience with other USB powered speakers (much cheaper) resulted in what sounded like underpowered speakers with little bass. I was VERY pleased to personally hear that this isn't the case with the SBX10. I'm not an audiophile, and there will always be a better speaker somewhere, but the quality of sound, including bass, was full bodied. Cranking up to full volume (on my laptop AND the SBX10) I could get these speakers to rattle. But for personal use in a small space or room, I could get things loud enough to drown out everything else. I can't stress the quality of the sound for this size of USB powered device.
You can get a fairly cheap power supply to work with this speaker system. The enclosed documentation indicates that a 5 volt DC, 1.0 amp charger with a USB port should work. I tested the speakers with a AmazonBasics Wall Charger with USB Outlet (2.1 Amp Output) and a cheapo I picked up on a Target "open box for sale" table for five bucks that was rated at 5 volts DC and 1.0 amps. Both had a large, standard USB port that accepted the same cable included with the SBX10 to plug into my laptop. I used the wall chargers to power the speakers external to my laptop, which I then successfully paired via Bluetooth.
The SBX10 also looks very nice and elegant and reminded me of the black monolith in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. The touch panel controls on the top work nicely and easily, but you will get finger smudges on the shiny, black surface (not a problem for me and totally expected).
An easy 5 out of 5 stars for what is now my favorite (and currently using on my system) portable speaker for my desktop.
