An excellent entry level gaming headsetDec 13, 2012

As a DJ and avid gamer I'm always in the market for new and decent quality headphones. I've owned and used dozens of headphones over the years and there always seems to be something new for PC, gaming consoles and DJing. As I always enjoy testing out new headphones here are my thoughts on the Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Rage USB Gaming Headset;
Pros
+ Nice sound and noise isolation. The bass is warm and rich, better than many of headphones I've owned.
+ Sits snuggly on your head (comes with a con see below)
+ Detachable microphone.
+ Convenient volume controls.
+ Solid sounding treble and bass.
+ Plenty of audio controls.
+ Multi-platform use (PC, Mac and many mobile devices).
+ Ability to change the color/pulsation of the lights on the ear cups. Cosmetic only but still neat.
+ Braided USB cord (Although some may view this as a Con).
+ Easy to set up.
Cons
- Works on PC/Mac/Mobile Devices only, no consoles hence the lower price point.
- No storage stand, case or cover.
- Earphones are faux leather and don't breathe well resulting in quite a bit of heat and sweat around my ears. Also, if you're a glasses wearer (like me) the headphones can really cause your cause your frames to dig into the side of your head. Rather painful. Unfortunately, this is very common with most over the ear headphones.
- Audio controls can be troublesome to adjust in the middle of a game.
- May be too heavy and bulky for some.
- No software included. You must download it externally online.
At the $80 range, the Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Rage USB Gaming Headset is really quite good, especially if you're a big PC gamer. The build quality is relatively solid and it feels like the headset would hold up to rough users. There are also plenty of controls that allow you to customize your sound depending on what you're playing/watching/listening too. Despite a small list of Cons the Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Rage USB Gaming Headset is an all-around affordable, functional and quality gaming headset.

The Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Rage USB Gaming Headset (70GH023000000) is a gaming headset designed for both PC and Mac. In addition to serving in gaming capacities, the headset can also be used with mobile devices (iPad, iPod, iPhone, etc.) given a 3.5 mm 4-pole to 4-pole cable. Included within the package is the headset, the noise-canceling mic, a USB cable for the PC/Mac, and instructions for use. As with so many things these days, a QR Code can be found atop the packaging, leading to the Creative Labs website.
There is no software included for the headset, but there are instructions within the pamphlet of where to download the software and how to properly install it onto the respective PC or Mac. This was a painless process personally, particularly following the prescribed directions. Once the software is installed, it allows for the listener to adjust the audio and control the mic with an array of vocal effects, etc.
As for the experience of the headset, it sports an excellent overall sound truly enhancing any listening experience. I tested the headset listening to music to see how well the mix was within the headset (most games have music as well) and I was very pleased with the highs and lows within the mix. The sound is also adjustable via the software, as mentioned previously. The microphone is equally effective, particularly given the array of vocal effects which makes chatting or commentary while gaming that much more fun.
Overall, the headphones are very comfortable. If you had to nitpick, the bulk of the headset might be the only quibble against and overall friendly device. The microphone is mobile in the sense you can always detach it or just move it away from your mouth, which is a pro. Some may have complaints about the USB cord length (some may say it's too long, other's not long enough, etc.), but from my perspective I took no issue with it. All-in-all, I highly recommend the Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Rage USB Gaming Headset (70GH023000000). 4 stars.

I've dabbled in quite a few different headsets/headphones for different purposes (mostly all being budget headphones). This headset here is probably one of the best deals out there, if only for the versatility of the product.
The reason I purchased this headset was mainly to replace my wireless headphones. I had three pairs before and there were problems with each. The first was unbearably uncomfortable over time. The second had issues with interference and overall sound quality. The third was somewhat unbearable and somewhat unreliable.
I finally got myself to spend over $50 on my wireless headphones. After much deliberation, I went with this product. Upon opening the product, the headset looked and felt quite sturdy. Installation was relatively easy (had to download the software from the site as I did not receive and installation CD). It works quite well on Windows 8 and I have not run into many problems. One was with the HID Service not starting automatically and causing the volume dial to not actually adjust volume with my system, but that might have been a keyboard problem and was a simple fix.
So now, I start with what purposes this headset serves me...
Music... I enjoy listening to music and like to use my wireless headphones/headset around the house for this. The range of this headset is quite good and very consistent. Sound quality is incredible and the ability to customize with the software provided is excellent. Comfort level of wearing the headset for extended periods is a little bit of a downer. Still, my ears actually don't get as much discomfort as the top of my head (foam would've been better than the rubber-like padding). I've managed to soften up the top of the headset, which takes care of most the discomfort.
Voice... With the adjustable mic and range of the headset, voice chatting works quite nicely if I need to step away from the computer. There is even a setting for enhanced dialog with the software.
Gaming... This is now my preferred gaming headset. Being able to last as long as I'm awake during the day, I can save charging the headset for overnight and going back to using it again the next day. So, there's very little to worry about in regards to being disconnected. The software even provides you a display of battery life left on the headphones, so you can gauge if you need to switch headsets. Another option is just to plug in the headset, because it can operate while charging, and has a nice, braided cord provided for the USB port.
I also use this headset with watching many series or movies. The software enhances the audio quality a bit for this purpose. I'm not sure it's a major task I use this headset for, but it's still nice.
Bottom line; if you're debating over a wireless headset/headphones, something for gaming, something for music/entertainment, and/or something wired, you might be able to save yourself some money and get this set in the end. My biggest complaint is that the comfort is not a tad bit better. Considering how big a factor comfort is in any headset I use, these probably do just fine in that area anyways.

I like Creative headsets. They are usually loaded with powerful and bass-ful sounds, comfortable design, and easy to use software. The Creative Rage's addition to the Creative family introduces the customizable illuminated LED cups, as well as a cleaner look on the headset's design. In short, the RAGE keeps the powerful, bass-heavy, enjoyable sound, has comfortable cushioned earcups and top head cushion, and has an intriguing LED illuminated cups feature.
SB Prism - 16 million color illuminated earcups
Essentially, you can have the earcups (the exterior of the headset earcups) in three settings
1) (selected) LED Light solid
2) (selected) LED Light flashing in a random pattern
3) (selected) LED light pulsating with whatever sound is playing, whether it's music or the game you are playing.
You can also change the opacity and drag the color bar exactly to your liking. You may also choose a setting that randomizes the LED colors
Sound
I've tried the Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Wrath Wireless Gaming Headset for PC and Mac with THX Studio Pro (GH0180), Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha USB Gaming Headset, and Creative HS 980. All share similar traits - powerful and bass-heavy sound, good clarity between highs and lows, and good balance between sounds. Music is a treat - everything sounds clear, though the bass can be overwhelming at times. Gaming is where the sound shines. Creative's sound quality for gaming is one of my favorites, even when compared to Logitech, Corsair (though I put Corsair at #1), Plantronics, and Razer. Creative knows what their gamers need to hear.
SBX Pro Studio
The software is easy to use, giving you the capability to tweak an equalizer and save profiles, transform your voice to different presets, and of course, to change the settings for the LED illuminated cups.
Microphone
Frankly, it is just awful and unacceptable. It continues to surprise me that Creative keeps manufacturing and placing these detachable microphones on their products. It really dampers a great headset with a microphone that does not match the high quality of sound. The microphone is fuzzy, does not capture the voice in a flattering way, and noticeably low-quality especially when playing online. I can tell when someone is using a Creative microphone in a Counterstrike or Left 4 dead 2 server. Don't want to be that guy. I really hope Creative improves the clarity and power of their microphones. They need to get their microphones at least on par with the Logitech's and Plantronics. Plantronic's microphones are the best, like on the Plantronics GameCom 780 Surround Sound Stereo PC Gaming Headset - Frustration Free Packaging
All in all, the RAGE is a solid headset with a great build, comfort, sound (both gaming and music), an intriguing new feature of the illuminated cups, and with a sub-par microphone. Definitely take a look.

Pros:
-the design and look of the headset is very good.
-build quality doesn't look or feel cheap.
-Sound quality to me is very impressive, I'm not a headset snob so I'm not sure how it stacks up to others but by far the best I've had. Bass is also very impressive.
-Microphone on this is amazing clean and crisp without picking up any background noise.
-Microphone is detachable
-Once you put on the headset you end up in your own little world.
-Wireless allows you to move around a fair distance, went around my apartment with all the doors closed and had no problems with lag or with quality of sound.
- HUGE PLUS changing color side panels you can change with the computer interface
- buttons on the headset are easy to access
-comfortable after about 5 hours of wear so far
-fast charge, lasted the 5 hours of wear with 75% or more battery
Cons:
-wire is really big but since its wireless after you charge no worries
Summary:
Incredible headset with a lot of cool stuff, I use it for gaming and communicating with friends or teammates.
great sound quality with a very far range and no lag.
great battery
