Exactly what I neededMar 13, 2013
By G. Ned Christensen
I use a Mac Mini which, of course, has no webcam. Also, with Mountain Lion, I should be able to dictate my emails and other wordprocessing tasks. However, I have not been able to make a regular microphone work through the usual microphone port. I did find that a USB microphone would work. So, my purpose in ordering this item was to have a WebCam available for FaceTime, and also have a USB microphone. It serves both functions perfectly! I just took it out of the box, set the camera on top of my monitor, and plugged it in the USB port. Everything worked right out-of-the-box. You can't ask for more than that. I was also a little concerned that my monitor might be a bit too fat for the clip device on the WebCam. While it doesn't actually clip to the monitor, it does sit on top just fine and seems to be stable. Unlike some other reviewers, I didn't find the low light to be a problem. Because I am sitting in front of the monitor, the light from the monitor itself lights my face and seems to be adequate for FaceTime. Also, I can speak in a normal voice and the microphone seems to pick up my voice without problems. In short, I couldn't be more satisfied. It is a great device at a low price.
Pros: compact size, low price, easy setup.
Cons: I have not found any yet.

With price under consideration, fantastic webcamMay 29, 2013

I am a huge computer user, working in an IT department of an university and love gadgets in general.
Owning both a desktop, laptop, and tablet, I began to realize that most of my computing time was spent on the desktop where my work is most productive with a full-sized mouse and keyboard along with a nice display.
The only obstacle with using a desktop was the limit from the inability to video call.
As an avid Google Hangouts/Skype user, I always found myself going to my laptop to video call, until this handy little webcam came along.
Now for roughly $20 (the price at 5/29/2013), the value was hard to beat. It definitely looked more sleek and stylish than those $4 ebay knockoffs and it served its purpose well.
It sits right on top of your monitor and has a hinge design, which allows it to rest on top of it. As long as you have a LCD monitor, you should be fine since the hinge adjusts to fit monitors up to about 2 inches (~5cm) thick.
The image quality isn't anything amazing, but it definitely beat both my tablet, smartphone, and laptop image qualities.
If you're looking to do any serious HD video chatting, this webcam is not for you. It won't make everything super sharp and clear but the quality definitely beats any built-in webcams on laptops that I've used.
In terms on the microphone, it picks up voice fairly well. I have not tested this in a loud environment. I did notice that the further you are from the webcam, the amount of voice the microphone built in to the webcam decreased substantially, so take note of that.
Otherwise, this webcam is sleek, stylish and fits well into most setups and for a $20 accessory, I would highly recommend it for anybody who just wants to sit down for a nice video calling session.

OK webcam, not impressed with image qualityJan 09, 2012
I'm not an expert at webcams, but I have been able to run with the Creative Live! Cam Chat HD 720P 5.7MP Webcam for a while and have some observations.
This webcam is easy to hook up, is recognized immediately by my Windows 7 PC, and works as expected. It is also fairly small. But when comparing image quality of this webcam to the built in webcam on my son's Dell laptop, the Creative is noticably poorer - colors are washed out and there is a distinct lack of contrast, esp. if the lighting is not great. In addition, I wish there way a better way to attach this to the lid of a laptop, as it falls off easily.
If you are looking for an inexpensive webcam to just "get the job done" the Creative Live! Cam Chat HD will work for you; but if you are interested in a higher quality output you may need to keep searching. For example, I might consider the Creative Live! Cam Socialize HD AF 720P 10MP Webcam for just a bit more than this product.

Easy to use with plenty of featuresJan 11, 2012

I've used a number of Webcams and have one already. But the Webcam on my Granddaughter's laptop died so I had her test this one.
She isn't a computer geek so it was a test of how easy it was to install and use this camera.
She had it installed and running in less than 15 minutes without a problem.
I personally like the design better than the Creative Labs cam I have on my computer.
Mine works pretty good but its method of attachment causes it to flop off too often. The Cam Chat stays put easier and has a better, clearer picture. Much of that is because of its 5.7 Megapixel lens which is at least twice the resolution of mine.
This is important if you do any video conferencing. It is terrible to be talking to someone over the internet and their view of you is blurry. That isn't a problem with this Webcam.
Creative does have one Webcam with 10 Megapixels and two Webcams that have 12 Megapixel resolution but unless you are doing acrobatics in front of your computer they are a bit of overkill. Particularly when you realize that the 10 MP costs 46% more and the 12 MP cams cost from 77% to 335% more.
So for the price, this is an outstanding Webcam to own.

good valueMar 16, 2012
I'm by no means a tech junkie. I was looking for a inexpensive camera with basic features that would work with my mac mini 10.6.8. This camera does the job.
