4Good sound and noise isolation/blocking features, an improvement over the Creative 630's I have been using while traveling.Nov 17, 2011
By D. Brennan
I spend a lot of time on airplanes and am always looking for earphones that are above average in noise isolation. For long flights I carry Bose Noise Canceling head phones. For short flights I prefer something more compact. I compared these headphones on a recent trip to Pittsburgh vs. the Creative EP-630 In-Ear Noise-Isolating Headphones (Black), which have been my standard travel headphones. Here's how they stack up:

Neither product used noise cancellation technology; that's reserved for much higher priced items. They use the rubber ear buds to block sound from getting in to your ear canal. The 660 produces slightly better sound quality. The bass sounds are a bit deeper and I was able to hear some of the background voices and instruments that are sometimes harder to hear with the 630. For example, with classical music I was able to better distinguish between some of the instruments. Please keep in mind that this is not a criticism of the Creative 630's, as they are far superior to similarly priced headphones from other manufacturers.

The one issue I have with the 660's is that they did not seem to fit as well in to my ears as the 630's. I felt that the fit was less than ideal and they more easily moved around in my ear, requiring occasional manual adjustments.

Both models seemed to offer similar levels of noise isolation (NOT Noise Cancellation), though the fit issue with the 660 came in to play occasionally.

Overall if you are willing to pay roughly double the price ($15.50 for the 630's vs $30 for the 660's) you will get the benefit of better overall sound quality.

5Phenomenal HeadphonesJul 22, 2011
By Chris MG
I bought these because the stock headphones that came with my Creative Zen had blown. I used those headphones for almost six years and every other pair that I bought (from chain places) seemed to severely lack any serious sound structure. I would continually have to turn my Zen almost all the way up to get any real sound out of them.

These little babies are phenomenal. They are very small and come with three sizes of rubber in-ear pieces that can be swapped out.

The first thing I noticed when I first used these was the superb way they cancel outside noises. I couldn't hear anything after I slapped these in, including my wife trying to talk to me from two feet away. I had to actually take them out to hear what she was saying, and that was before I even started playing any music. The other immediate thing was the enormous range of the bass. It's not too heavy and seems just right with my Zen on "Rock" setting, but it is deep. The mid-range is loud and boisterous without being arrogant and hurtful. The midrange can get washed out if the volume is too high, but that's at the levels of hearing damage anyway. The highs seem a small bit lacking, but too much treble is annoying to me anyway and hurts my ears. I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination, but all-in-all, these are perfect for me and I'm extremely glad that I bought them. The sound is unbeatable for the price. Creative makes sound cards for computers and I believe that a company that does that must know about sounds and audio. These prove to me that I was correct in that assumption. Very pleased.

EDIT: It is now February 9th, 2013. I have now had this exact set of earbuds since July of 2011. They are still going just as strong as the day I received them. The wires have no wear on them and neither bud has blown. I am not exactly gentle with them either. The rubber covering is showing zero signs of wear and they are still very comfortable. I use these for everything. I work out and run with them on, I work on the engine in my vehicle with them on, I do dishes/housework/vacuum with them on - all with exactly zero problems. For this price, there is literally not a better deal. Maybe the 630's are similar, but I will stand by these 660's until the cows come home.

3Very Good Sound, But Durability ConcernsOct 27, 2011
By Philip R. Heath "Gadgets, Music, & Books"
Design: 2 Stars

Features: 3 Stars

Performance: 4 Stars

The Creative EP-660 earbuds are the latest mid-level offering from Creative. I have a pair of EP-830 that came with my Zen X-Fi mp3 player that I will use for comparison in this review. I was impressed with the sound quality of the 660's compared to the 830's which retail for $20 more. In listening tests that included rap (K'Naan), hard rock (Guns `N Roses), and blues (Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa) I found little to distinguish one from the other as far as reproducing sound across the full spectrum. I don't think you can ask for much more in terms of sound quality at this price point.

However, there is a catch. I have a number of durability concerns for the 660's. First, I wish that Creative would start to design angled plugs rather than the straight ones that both the 660's and the 830's share. The straight plug makes strain and bending much more likely when using with an mp3 player. In addition, the 660's seem even more fragile than the 830's. The cord connecting the plug to the earbuds is very thin. Further it is also very tangle prone. Based on these factors I would not recommend these for children or active use as they are unlikely to stand up to the strain. If you are looking for very good sound quality for stationary listening use by responsible users, the Creative EP-660 are a safe bet. I haven't heard anything that sounds as good for the money.

1Do not buySep 18, 2012
By N. Wagner
These did not even last me 3 months. I noticed a few other people mentioned the protective covering over the wires seemed to wear off kinda fast. The part where the cord splits into 2 was just exposed to the point where I guess the wire for the left side frayed/broke and now only the right ear bud receives sound, which makes them completely useless.

5Best Earphones I ever got my hands on!Jan 09, 2013

Sound quality is better than the previous model EP-630 which I have been using from around 2 years. The product completely fills its description.
