Simple, convenient, works well.Apr 01, 2012
By David Simonov
Got this D100 speaker from Amazon yesterday and after 20 minutes got it up and running with my Rocketfish USB Bluetooth 2.1 (Class 2) dongle and with my HTC Desire Android cellphone.
The interface on the device is very simple and works flawlessly as advertised. Sound quality is very good. One thing to keep in mind, when you pair it to your PC/Laptop you have to have it close (within 1 meter) to the adapter. After the pairing is complete and connection is established the range between the Rocketfish USB Bluetooth 2.1 (Class 2) dongle and the D100 speaker is approximately 7 meters in open air, line of sight space. You can put the speaker behind a drywall wall but the range dropped to approximately 2 meters and the music started to be cut off and on every ~30 seconds. In general, the more distance and obstacles, the less sound quality you get with Bluetooth [and most other radio based devices such as WiFi]. The RANGE DEPENDS ON THE POWER OF THE USB DONGLE's TRANSMITTER and much less so on the D100; therefore, if you need greater range or have a wall between the speaker and the USB dongle consider buying a Class 1 Bluetooth dongle instead, that can transmit to a range of 100 meters in open space.
Range aside, the other potential issue is the driver quality and set-up of the USB dongle on Windows 7 PC. Consider buying a good, brand name, USB dongle with reliable and high quality drivers.
This is easier said then done. Research the reviews on-line before you buy the USB dongle. You can also buy the Creative's own USB dongle and that is recommended for this speaker.
I really like this product so far and can't find a fault in it.

Amazing Value!Jun 01, 2012
I have really enjoyed this speaker since I got it back in April. The sound is really amazing for a bluetooth speaker, and it should be perfect for non-audiophiles, especially for the price! It's not blaring enough for a house party, but it's plenty loud enough for a dorm room, or as a boom box replacement if you're wanting to go all-digital with your music. I use it for all that, and as a laptop speaker. I usually keep it plugged in, but the battery life with 4 AAs is really amazing. I haven't had to replace the batteries since putting them in, but take that with a grain of salt, because they've only been in for a few weeks and I only use it on battery power when I'm showering or doing chores. Other positives: It looks great (I ordered the lime green) and it's light and fairly portable--very portable for use around the house.
As for the things I don't like about it: The speaker is sometimes finicky when establishing a connection with my smartphone and my laptop. This is only an occasional problem and I've never not been able to connect, but it means I have to turn the speaker off and on as well as the bluetooth antenna on my device until it connects. It's more of an occasional annoyance than a dealbreaker, though. I also wish there was an equalizer. Being that the audio/music signal travels over a bluetooth signal rather than through a cord, the bass/mid/treble of the sound of the speaker is a bit distorted. Again, this probably won't be too noticeable if you're not an audiophile, but it would be nice if there were some way to adjust the sound to accommodate that issue. But then, the speaker is only $60 dollars, which is relatively inexpensive for a bluetooth speaker. My only other complaint is the fabric that covers the speaker grill; it feels really delicate and I worry that it might tear at some point. A metal or even a stronger fabric grill would be much better.
Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives. It might be the other way around if this was a $150-$200 speaker, but the value for the money is amazing. It's a great quality device, all quirks aside.
*Sidenote: Oh, and to comment on the issue of it not connecting to some laptops: Check your laptop or desktop before you buy to make sure your device has the appropriate bluetooth antenna. My laptop has a built in bluetooth antenna, but yours may not. There are a lot of great resources including consumer publication web sites and consumer forums/messageboards that you can check out too, so definitely research any product that you're unsure about before you buy. I hope this review of my experience with the device was helpful! :)

easy to useMar 27, 2013

A streaming boom box that rocksJun 03, 2012
I was looking for something to stream music from my Transformer tablet when surfing, reading ezines etc. This was easy to pair, push the button wait for it to blink and select the D100 on your device and thats it. No need to pair again it auto connects to multiple devices both my transformer and my wifes ipad auto connect with only one pair per device. It is portable runs on AC or four AA's and has a 3.5 mini input. As for the audio quality it is not perfect but if you give some distance it sounds pretty good, sitting right next to it and it does not sound that great. Adding some EQ on your MP3 APP really enhances the sound. I have it across the room on a dresser and it sounds and performs really good with MP3, WAV, streaming radio and video. It gets really loud. The device itself is a white plastic shell with a thin colored fabric, the plastic and fabric does feel cheap but looks good and if you don't plan to abuse should work out well. I think it is an awesome product and so far the best on the market right now at a fair price.
